Position Objectives:
Cypress Motor Inn is seeking a reliable and experienced Cook to join our food service team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking breakfast, lunch, beverages and other menu items while maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, cleanliness and food safety.
The Cook will also assist with kitchen organization, menu
planning, inventory management and the coordination of day-to-day food
preparation activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook breakfast items, lunches, meals and
other dishes according to established recipes, customer requests and
appropriate cooking methods.
- Prepare
coffee, tea and other hot beverages as requested by customers.
- Set up and
organize kitchen workstations with the required ingredients, utensils and
cooking equipment.
- Plan and
complete food preparation and pre-preparation activities for the current and
following day's operations.
- Maintain
consistent standards of food quality, taste, portion size and presentation.
- Assist with
menu planning and develop or explore new recipes and food options.
- Determine
appropriate food portions and estimate ingredient requirements and food costs.
- Monitor
inventory levels, identify supply requirements and assist with ordering food
and kitchen supplies.
- Maintain
accurate records related to inventory, supplies and food requirements.
- Maintain a
clean, sanitary and organized kitchen, food preparation area and serving area.
- Follow
applicable food safety, sanitation and workplace health and safety practices.
- Train,
guide and supervise kitchen assistants or other food service workers as
required.
- Assist in
scheduling kitchen assistants and coordinating daily kitchen activities.
- Perform
other related kitchen and food preparation duties as required by the operation.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Completion of a cooking or culinary training/certification program is an asset
- Manitoba Food Handler Certification is preferred.
- Knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, kitchen sanitation and safe food-handling practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
Desirable Training and Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in food preparation or cooking.
- Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, motel or similar food-service environment is an asset.
Work Schedule and Availability
The food service operation generally operates between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The successful candidate must be willing to work flexible shifts, including different times within the operating schedule, based on business requirements.
